Sekal is a Norwegian technology company founded in 2011 in Sandnes, specialising in autonomous drilling automation software for the oil and gas industry. The company's DrillTronics platform provides automated drilling control that integrates with rig systems for real-time process automation and safeguards, while its DrillScene product delivers real-time wellbore monitoring by comparing downhole models with live drilling data to detect early signs of problems. Sekal has partnered with Halliburton to deliver the world's first automated on-bottom drilling system, deployed for Equinor on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in 2025. The integrated solution orchestrates autonomous directional drilling with automated wellbore hydraulics and dynamic surface equipment control. Backed by investors including Aramco Ventures and Equinor Ventures, and acquired by Sumitomo Corporation in 2019, Sekal is a recognised leader in the transition from manual to autonomous drilling operations.
